Hat Burning Class

Instructor: Regina Pena

Students should bring:

Optional: Embellishments for hat: beads, fancy hat band, feathers. Instructor will provide an adult-size vegan suede hat (colors vary in neutral earth tones of brown/tan); use of a wood burner during class; stencils, etc.

Class Description: 

Learn to sketch or trace your choice of design onto a vegan suede hat. Learn the proper techniques to successfully use a wood burning tool to burn the design onto the hat. The class is limited to a maximum of 8 students so each student will receive individual attention. Drawing experience is a plus but not required. Students should expect to finish about 90% to 100% of this project during class time; instructor will provide information to complete the project.

Vineyard Vase

Students should bring:

Master pro carver or Dremel with small bits, apron, mask, gloves.

Instructor will provide:

Gourd (approximately 10″ to 12″ tall) with the vineyards already drawn and burned on the base; all other materials.

Class Description: 

Students will learn to apply the ash at the end of the carving. The traditional artist still preserves the techniques of our ancestors. In this technique we will use very small bits to carve the lines of our vine’s yard. Students must have carving experience. During the class, students must finish carving the vineyard and applying the ash. The rest can be finished at home.

Spooky Cemetery

Heat tool; scissors.

Class Description: 

This is a fun and creative class. You will be making tombstones, trees and a fence for your cemetery. Then add skeletons and other accessories to finish it. I will have creepy cloth on the gourd for you. Can paint the color of your choice. You’ll take home a finished project approximately 6″ to 9″.

Eggshell Inlay with Embossed Rim and Trim

Students should bring:

Burner to burn the lines on your gourd, heating tool, apron, gloves, compass. Instructor will bring tools for class to share.

Class Description: 

You will burn three lines on a bowl. You will then inlay eggshells. Add color to clear embossing powder to create your own color. We will use a sealer to protect the finished bowl. This will be done outside. Bowl is about 6” tall. Most students will leave with a finished project.

Just Humming Along

Students should bring:

An apron and a humming smile!

Class Description: 

Learn how to make a cute humming bird. The instructor will show you how to assemble the wings and tail using wire, cardboard and clay. The class will be using quick wood. You will make your bird into a lovely ornament to hang anywhere. The ornament is about 5” in size. Most students will leave with a finished project.

First Rib Basket

Students should bring:

Nothing is required. Optionally, bring an apron, basket weaving tools, mister, old towel. Instructor will have tools and basins for class use.

Class Description: 

A delicate little 5″ round melon basket that is perfect for those who have never tried a rib basket. Students will weave a God’s Eye with dyed reed, change to natural for a ‘smiley’ accent, then finish their basket with the color. Emphasis will be on preparing spokes, shaping, and turnbacks/fill. Color choices at class time. Students should expect to finish about 85% of this project during class time; instructor will provide information to complete the basket.
