The Gourd Light is a fun class in which the student will learn more about basic carving and drilling holes of various sizes. Transform an ordinary kettle or cannonball gourd into a sweet glowing light! With the LED bulb (provided), your design will shine beautifully on nearby surfaces. Beads can be inserted into some of the holes for a little accent color.

This class involves drilling lots and lots of little holes! It’s a noisy, dusty, fun project, not suitable for people under age 19, or those who would have difficulty with repetitive motion. This class uses power tools and hot or sharp equipment and is geared toward adults.

Approximate size of the finished project is 4” to 6” diameter. Most students will complete about 80% of the project during class time.

Students should bring: a gourd (or you can choose a gourd from the instructor at no extra charge); safety glasses, Rotary tool (such as a Dremel), tools and bits for carving and drilling holes. (3, 4, 5, 6 mm or 1/8, 3/32, 3/16, ¼ inch), pencil, apron, mask, pattern (optional).

The gourd should be between 4” and 6” diameter, cleaned and ready to craft with a 3″ circular hole for the light fixture and optionally, an additional hole (see photos).

Instructor will provide: Gourd light pendant, LED bulb, beads.
